(13 November 2011)

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has signed the "Be’tha Program" contract with Sharjah University to sponsor 56 students to continue their academic career.

Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, signed the agreement along with Dr. Sami Abdulhamid, Sharjah University Manager, and witnessed by Dr. Eesa Bastaki, CEO of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Fund at the TRA’s Dubai office.

The TRA through the ICT Fund will sponsor 56 students to continue their academic career at Sharjah University. The TRA will cover the costs of the Emirati students specializing in ICT.

Sharjah University will choose the outstanding students who qualified for the scholarship program according to the criteria outlined in the contract.

This scholarship aims to sponsor students chosen by Sharjah University, and track their academic progress in order to develop a strong national workforce in the ICT sector.

Al Ghanim said, "We are very keen to provide our ICT sector with national expertise, thus we support our students in their academic disciplines. This contract with Sharjah University certainly reflects our interest to develop and leverage the ICT sector to the highest levels. The TRA, through its initiatives, aims to support the national scientific workforce, develop it, and encourage our citizens to be involved in the ICT sector as an active player that contributes to its development on a global scale." "Our cooperation with Sharjah University is a result of the efforts we made to bring this initiative to fruition, and we hope that this collaboration will achieve its desired objective. We also hope to expand our future work horizons to more common projects that enhance and develop the presence of our national cadre," Al Ghanim added.

Bastaki said, "We are committed to sponsoring bright and capable Emirati students. The scholarship will cover all the costs and expenses the students need to achieve success and distinction in their studies. We continuously meet with our students and listen to their opinions and ideas, and we seek to meet their requirements and desires in a way that will bring benefit to everyone. I would like to thank Sharjah University for the efforts they are making to leverage the UAE educational sector." Abdulhamid said, "It is our pleasure to join hands with the TRA to help the students, and we hope that our expertise will help to achieve the desired goals of the Be’tha Program. We assert that we shall follow the highest measurements in choosing the qualified students for the scholarship program. We will make sure to track their studies, as we hope they achieve optimum levels of success. We, at Sharjah University, seek to contribute with qualified national graduates that all sectors around the country need."
