Ruler of Sharjah Orders AED20 Million to Address Accommodation Concerns in Sharjah
(10 January 2012)

Directive Issued Through Phone Call to "Al-Khatt Al-Mubashir" Program on Sharjah TV

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, today ordered the allocation of AED20 million for the purpose of facilitating families living in houses that are up for demolition to move into rental accommodations until the completion of units at the affordable housing projects in Sharjah.

The directive from His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, was issued during a telephonic call on the ‘Al Khatt Al-Mubashir’ program on Sharjah TV. During the interview, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed assured listeners that he would personally oversee the speedy execution of the process.

His Highness additionally mentioned that the Sharjah Government has the capacity to build 1,000 accommodations per year. However, the demand has risen to over 5,000 per year, which has prompted him to seek immediate solutions for doubling the number of accommodations built annually.

As an immediate follow-through, the Department of Housing in Sharjah has been tasked to address the volume of applications for affordable housing from UAE nationals residing in Sharjah. His Highness has also directed the department to expedite the completion of accommodations, which were proposed to be completed over the next five years, within a year and a half.

On its part, the Department of Housing in Sharjah announced that in collaboration with the Municipal Councils it has compiled a list of buildings that are on the verge of collapse or those that are not appropriate for living. The department promised to immediately deliver an action plan in response to the orders of His Highness to replace the targeted buildings.
