Interpretation And Education Department Introduces Two Monthly Museum Workshops


 

The Department of Interpretation and Education will organize two monthly workshops for adults with a focus on topics related to the 17 museums managed by the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) as part of SMD’s plan to boost its role in creating an interactive educational environment for people of various age groups.

A workshop, titled "Behind the Scenes of the Aquarium", was held on February 25, 2012 at the Sharjah Aquarium and attended by number of participants who were taken by the Aquarium’s specialists on a tour of the aquarium to get familiarized with work done to provide the proper environment for marine species living there.

A specialist at the Sharjah Aquarium gave a small talk on marine life in the country. This was later followed by behind the scene tour where the specialist explained the advanced technologies used to ensure the appropriate environment for marine life and fish species in used in the aquarium.

The participants got the chance to hold the starfish and turtles as part of the programme. Participants also learnt about the basic rules for aquarium care and cleaning methods, and how to ensure that there are sufficient quantities of oxygen and mineral salts in aquarium water to ensure a healthy environment for fish species living in aquariums. They also leant about fish feeding methods, in terms of the quality of food provided to fish species living in these aquariums.

The participants were also briefed on measures and methods used in case if fish gets sick or injured, as they toured the Veterinary and treatment unit to know the treatment and refining system, mechanisms of cleaning, reuse of water and waste removal and filtration system, as well as how divers clean interfaces from the inside.

The workshop’s participants expressed their happiness and satisfaction with the information they learnt at the workshop which added a lot to their experience and provided them with valuable information .
