Majlis Al Midfa
About The Museum

Majlis Al Midfa first opened its doors as a museum on November 16, 1996.

Why you should visit Majlis Al Midfa

The most peaceful meeting place where you can recall the memories of the good old days. A visit to Majlis Al Midfa offers you an amazing opportunity to contemplate the magnificence of the unique Barjeel (round wind-tower), which this place is remarkably famous for, being the only one of its kind in the UAE.

Step back in time to a place that gathered, hundreds of years ago, Emirati intellectuals under one roof to read, exchange ideas, discuss affairs, enjoy the evenings reciting poetry and literature, and strengthen social relations among them. All you need to do is visit Majlis Al Midfa and enjoy some quality time in an immersive and inspirational atmosphere.

A unique experience evoking a tremendous sense of pride ‎

Al Midfa issued the first newspaper in the history of UAE. Majlis Al Midfa belongs to Ibrahim bin Mohammed al Midfa, a prominent intellectual figure who contributed immensely to the cultural development in the UAE in general, and Sharjah in particular. In 1927, Al Midfa issued the first newspaper, the "Oman" newspaper, in the history of the UAE; he, subsequently, issued "Soutul Asafeer" (the sound of birds). Intellectuals used to gather here to talk and discuss the latest news.

Majlis Al Midfa paved the way for the beginning of the modern cultural movement in the UAE, as it contains a library and a meeting hall for local residents, scientists and traders to spend interesting evenings sharing their poetic, literary and political interests, and discussing various life issues, as a means to maintain cultural and social networking. This place gained reputation for being one of its kind in the UAE. In addition to the library, Majlis Al Midfa contains a carved pearl chest, old manuscripts and a silver dagger adorned with a gold leaf.
