Sharjah University City - Beacon Of Education
Sharjah University City is a centre of education and knowledge made up of nine institutes of learning. Its occupants include the American University of Sharjah (AUS), Sharjah University, the Higher College of Technology , Sharjah Police Academy and Sharjah Library.
Sharjah has a legacy as a beacon of education and culture which lives on today. From the 1950’s this ancient city fostered the growth of many small schools during a period when education was only affordable for the wealthy minority. Today, Sharjah is one of the most important learning centres in the Middle east. A visit to the impressive University City helps visitors understand the vision that lies behind this glorious achievement.
The University of Sharjah is one of the emirate’s outstanding institutions. It was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme President of the university. Located approximately 15 kilometers from Sharjah city centre, the university is a non-profit organization that belongs to the Sharjah government. It aims to be a centre of excellence for learning and knowledge.
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a non-profit, independent co-educational institution of higher education founded on the American model. It was inaugurated in 1997, by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The American University of Sharjah and the American University in Washington DC have signed an agreement establishing a ‘significant, mutual and cooperative affiliation’. www.aus.ac.ae
Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi Center of Gulf Studies is a magnificent and civilized cornerstone providing researchers with integrated and comprehensive historical and geographical studies about the Arabian Gulf region as well as the developments experienced by the region. Sharjah Higher College of Technology is one of the best educational institutions based in the UAE and actively contributed to raising the educational level in the country. The university is located in the campus building, in Muailah area – about 15 km away from Sharjah city centre, where green areas and water fountains prevail. www.hct.ac.ae
