Sharjah classic Cars Museum, situated next to Sharjah International Airport has over 80 cars on display. In the museum over 90 antique cars belong to five different eras. Visitors can go through a timeline, from the past till today’s technologically advanced cars. “The museum shows the development in the car industry throughout the 20 century,” according to the Museum’s Curator - Abdul Rahman Ali Ebrahim Al Hamadi. First opened in 2008, the museum was renovated in January 2013 and re-opened introducing five galleries that display the development of cars according to different time periods. The museum features more than 80 classic cars, two motorcycles, and five bicycles, as well as a model of an old car and an engine to allow visitors to become better acquainted with parts of an engine and how they function.
Museum has five zones to visit, first four explain the development of car technologies and era. The fifth one is dedicated to displaying special cars on loan from the public, in addition to an area specifically allocated for activities and interactive games.
In the first zone, from 1915 to 1940, covers brands such as T Ford, Rolls Royce 25/30, and Fiat . In the second zone, 1940 t0 1959, it is Cadillac Fleetwood and Stood Baker Wood, Riley RM, Bentley Mark VI, and Chevrolet Bel Air. In the third zone, from 1960 to 1987, brands such as Mercedes Bolman, a Ford Mustang, an MG Midget, and a Volkswagen Beetle. The fourth section features big vehicles and cars used in the UAE, such as the Jeep Land Rover, Nissan Patrol, Renault Van, and Chevrolet Tanker Truck.
Pointing out that the oldest car at the museum is an American Dodge from 1915, Al-Hamadi said that the museum also gives visitors the chance to become more acquainted with different car engines and how they function. “The museum represents different historical phases where people can appreciate a variety of old and classic cars and understand how they work,” he said.
One should definitely visit the museum to admire vintage and antique collection of cars.
