Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium

Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium is a huge and spectacular stadium that is situated in the beautiful city of the United Arab Emirates. It has been gathered from the history of Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, that it was constructed in the early part of 1980s. Over the years it developed very rapidly into a popular stadium where regular tournaments were hosted. This happened just after the World Cup victory of India in 1983, when one-day cricket matches became immensely popular.

Initially the stadium had limited seats when it was set up, but by the year 2002, the seating capacity of Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium increased to 27,000. With the introduction of superb floodlights and a host of modern facilities it has become an internationally acclaimed stadium.

Between 1984 and 2010 the Sharjah ground was the venue for 200 One Day International’s[2] held as part of commercially sponsored one day tournaments involving three or four international teams. Sharjah was a popular venue attracting good crowds mostly from the South Asian population of the United Arab Emirates. The tournaments were organised by "The Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS)" which had been established in 1981 by Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, and whose main aim was to honour cricketers of the past and present generations from India and Pakistan, with benefit purses in recognition of their services to the game of cricket.
